Breast milk or infant formula is your baby’s main food in his first year of life.
(1). Breast milk is the healthiest food for your baby. It strengthens his immune system and helps him fight infections. It helps low birth weight babies gain weight faster and is easier for your baby to digest than formula.
(2). Even if you have a complicated birth that keeps you from breastfeeding right away, you will still be able to breastfeed your baby.
(3).You may worry your baby is not getting enough breast milk. If he seems alert, gains weight regularly, feeds 8–12 times a day, and wet his diaper six or more times a day with clear or very pale urine, he is probably eating enough.
(4). Mothers who go back to work outside the home are able to pump their breast milk for their babies while they are away from them.
(5). Many women feed their babies at the breast. Others pump their breast milk and feed it to the baby in a bottle. Other mothers feed their babies formula from a bottle. Some mothers will do a combination of all three. This is a very personal decision.
