Fireworks Safety For Children
Fireworks are a traditional part of celebration in india - especially during the festival of diwali (the festival of lights) Its also used during various ceremonies - whether its celebrating the new year, occassion of marriage or india lifting the world cup - everytime fireworks comes to play. And most of the time believe me - its all child doing the act (and on numerous occassions without following any safety measures). Every year numerous of such accidents are reported and its gets repeated all the time.
Here is the list of firework safety guidelines which must be followed -
* Always remain with the child - while bursting crackers. (supervise the child - elder brother or parent)
* Avoid using unknown bombs or crackers. Alteast test it out once before allowing your child to proceed.
* Look for reliable crackers only. (from reliable manufacturer - and do read the manual before bursting the cracker)
* Keep the crackers away from flammable materials
* Burst the cracker only at the open. (away from parking area or electricity lines or gas lines)
* Also have a first aid kid ready nearby (This is important)
* Burst the cracker at safe distance. Run away from the firecracker before it burst.
* Never ignite fireworks in a container (in a glass or metal box - as exploding it might pearce the people around and damage property)
* Store fireworks in a cool, dry place according to their specific storage instructions.
* Never experiment or attempt to make your own fireworks. (thats what children does by mixing the material out of the cracker and tries to flame it)
* Do not wear loose clothing near a fire or while using fireworks. Do not wear such cloths which catches fire fast
* Its common to launch a rocket using a bottle. This is not right actually - but you can go to your terrace and do it.
* Never fire rockets using hands (this is risky as it might explode at someones house or vehicle or at hand itself)
* Sparklers (something like fulzharri in india) are sometimes dangerous - after enjoying with it always throw it at a corner as it remains hot for quite a time.
* Use sparklers one at a time
* Before lighting up sparklers or bombs move you face away from the source (Especially care for eyes is important)
* Bombs - don't stay very much near the bomb as it might damage your ear drums (try to close your ears with hands)
* Don't make the place over-crowded -- keeps your eyes and ears open all the time -- especially during the festival of diwali -- fire crackers are all over the place-- they might fall off from anywhere.
* If a bomb is lid but haven't gone off -- don't try to lift it up with hands (as it still might be active) and might burst at your hand.
* While bursing the crackers especially those which burst in series -- don't always place yourself a a safe distance (as they can randomly come and burn your skin or cloths)
* Move your body (especially face) away from the pistol cracker. (They are sometimes dangerous) Also while bursting it always be careful - don't ever point it at someone before bursting it.
* Don't be over confident
