Its generally accepted that having meal 3 times a day is normal i.e once as a breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its all matter to the body is how much calorie do you gain - and how much you are utilizing per day. A physical labourer or a sports person might utilize more energy and might have more appetite. Some people do have very little appetite so can't have all the meals. Anyway - now the real fact is there are various meal formats as described below
1) breakfast -> lunch -> dinner
2) breakfast ->lunch ->evening snacks -> dinner
3) brunch -> dinner
4) breakfast -> lunch -> tea time snack -> evening snack -> late night dinner
5) once in the morning (fast due to religious region)
6) nothing (due to lack of food or fasting for a particular day or days)
6) pre breakfast (early morning - may be around 6 am) -> breakfast (at around 9 am) -> lunch (at around 12 ) -> post lunch (at around 3 pm) -> evening snack (6 pm) -> dinner (9 pm)
7) some people continuously watch television or sit on a computer and continuously eat snacks (with random eating habits)
8) young infants rely on breast feeding and liquid food.
9) few claim they rely on solar energy (I am not confirming whether its true - i had read it on paper)
