Newborns depend on their parents for every need, and that can make new parents nervous. As the saying goes, children do not come with instruction manuals. But you will learn by doing, just as your baby will.
•Newborns sleep a lot, but not necessarily in long spurts.
•A newborn’s neck and spine are very fragile and can be easily hurt. Be sure to support your baby’s head when you hold him. Never shake your baby for any reason.
•It is normal for babies to lose weight after birth. That is because they are losing body fluids. When they are about 5 days old, they should begin to gain weight again. By 10–14 days old, they usually weigh what they did at birth. Now they begin to gain weight quickly.
